THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST      1 John 1:1-10   Yom (Day) Kippur (Covering)

Rosh Hashanah associated with creation -the evening of Friday, September 15 through the evening of Sunday, September 17th

Yom Kippur means “Day of Atonement.” Sunday, September 24, 2023/ Ends: evening Monday, September 25, 2023, It is the holiest and most solemn day of the Jewish year!  According to tradition, at the end of Yom Kippur, God “seals” our fates for the coming year (whether we will be inscribed in the Book of Life). The main themes of this day are sin, repentance and atonement.

That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and show unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. This then is the message which we have heard of Him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in Him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses  us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is now in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.

verse 7: "And the blood of Jesus Christ God’s Son cleanseth us from all sin."

Hebrew -Yom Kippur day of covering. The high priest of Israel went into a chamber called the holy of holies which first existed in the Tabernacle.

Once the children of Israel got into the promised land it became the temple so the temple was modeled after the Tabernacle.

In the TABERNACLE, the inside chamber was called the holy of Holies. It’s where theThe ARK OF THE COVENANT DWELT. On the top of the ARK OF THE  COVENANT was a place called the  MERCY SEAT.

THE HIGH PRIEST OF ISRAEL WOULD enter the SACRED CHAMBER (Holy Of Holies), AND WOULD BRING  BLOOD OF A BULL  /  BLOOD OF A GOAT,  WOULD POUR THAT BLOOD ON TOP OF THE ARK OF THE COVENANT, ON THE MERCY SEAT.

AND WHEN THE BLOOD WAS POURED OVER THE MERCY SEAT, IT COVERED THE SINS OF ISRAEL, 11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’

IT  WAS DONE YEAR AFTER YEAR (UNTIL THE VEIL THAT SEPARATED THE HOLY OF HOLIES FROM THE REST OF THE TEMPLE, WAS TORE IN HALF at the crucifixion of Jesus.)

It meant ONCE AND FOR ALL SINFUL HUMANITY WOULD BE ABLE TO ENTER THE HOLY OF HOLIES AND THAT MEANS you cannot  get to (GOD) / and have FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD / A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD, all because of the perfect sacrifice of Jesus on the cross of Calvary.

HEBREWS SAYS IT IS NO LONGER NECESSARY TO OFFER UP THE BLOOD OF BULLS AND GOATS EACH YEAR, FOR THEY WERE ONLY A SHADOW OF WHAT KING YESHUA(Jesus) WOULD DO THROUGH THE SHEDDING OF HIS BLOOD!

SO OUR SINS WOULD BE ATONED ONCE AND FOR ALL FOR EVER!

Sadly in our modern day, the OFFENSE (the assault or criticism) of the CROSS HAS BECOME TOO MUCH! A STUMBLING BLOCK,(offensive or to gruesome for some people) SO MUCH THAT IT HAS BEEN EXPUND AND PURGED OUT OF CHURCH HYMNALS, SERMONS, PULPITS AND THE GOSPEL!

We live in a day and age where every hymn of the blood of Jesus has been taken out of many mainline denominations.

BUT WE JUST READ in the Bible: But the blood of the cross that cleanses us from our sins is the heart of the announcement of the goodnews of the love of God in Jesus Christ.

This is actual blood: "The blood of Jesus Christ God’s Son cleanseth us from all sin" [1 John 1:7].

This is no simile, and it is no metaphor, and it is no figure of speech; this is actual blood!

The Gospel of John addresses Gnostics of that day “who discounted the deity of Christ”, who said our Lord was a man just like other men.

That’s why John testifies: "That which we have heard, that which we have seen with our eyes, that which we have looked upon and our hands have handled, the Word of life, that which we have seen and heard declare we unto you" [1 John 1:1-3].

JESUS was an actual man though He was also God.

And the sacrifice of Christ was the actual sacrifice of the body of a man that had been prepared in the womb of a virgin to be offered as a sacrifice for our sins.

And there’s no guessing about His manhood.

There’s no GUESSING bout His humanity. He was God in the flesh; God incarnate.

And the life that was sacrificed was an actual life, not the appearance of one but the actual body of the Son of God Himself.

 The blood that was poured out on the Cross of Calvary was the blood of the body of Jesus, God’s Son and our Savior.

The blood that cleanseth us from all sin is not spiritualized. It is not a metaphor or a figure of speech, but it is actual blood that stained the cross as it ran dowb, and the earth drank up the Crimsoned blood!

John says: And he that saw it bear record, and we know that his record is true [John 21:24].

When the sword pierced His side, blood and water, flowed out! And the Church was born.

"The blood of Jesus Christ God’s Son cleanseth us from all sin" [1 John 1:7].

Hebrews 9 - the offering of the blood of Christ in the great sanctuary of heaven secured for us an actual atonement, an actual remission of our sins [verses 12, 22-28].

The Bible says: 12 Not with the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 22 And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.

23 Therefore it was necessary that the copies of the things in the heavens should be purified with these, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. 24 For Christ has not entered the holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us; 25 not that He should offer Himself often, as the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood of another— 26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. 27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.

This passage in Hebrews starts off with a description of tabernacle and then enters into the great Day of Atonement. Every great national day of the Jewish people was a feast day; Passover, Tabernacles, Pentecost, Dedication, Purim. But there was one day in the year that was a day of fast, and of mourning, of affliction, and sorrow, and repentance, and that was the Day of the great Atonement, when the two sacrificial victims were brought before the high priest. And the priest divested himself of his high priestly garments and dressed in humility, himself a sinner like all other men.  And lots were cast, and the lot that fell upon the victim was slain,

And that blood was brought into the inner sanctuary and sprinkled there upon the mercy seat, THEN the other potential animal sacrifice, the high priest laid his hands upon the animals head, and confessed all the sins of the people, and that victim was driven away into the desert.

That’s the Day of Atonement; signifying that in the shedding of blood is the remission of our sins, and they’re taken away as that victim was driven out into the wilderness.

So too, our sins our taken away when we accept Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, our confessed sins are like was the Psalms says: Psalms 103:12 “as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. 12 He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. 12 And as far as sunrise is from sunset, he has separated us from our sins.”

This is our Day of Atonement: when our Lord was slain on the tree and when the blood crimsoned the ground of the Hill of the Skull, called Calvary.

There was a substitute made on the cross.  That’s my death.

That’s the judgment on my sins.  My sins nailed Him to the tree.

My sins crushed upon His brow the crown of thorns.

 And the judgment that should have fallen upon me fell upon Him.

"When I see the blood, I will pass over you" [Exodus 12:13, 23]

"For God has made Him to be sin for us, Him who knew no sin, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him" [2 Corinthians 5:21].

"For, my little children, for my little children, if we sin we have an Advocate with the Father,1 John 2:1

Jesus Christ the righteous: and He is the PROPIATION, (payment)

He is the mercy seat, He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world" [1 John 2:1-2].

Leviticus 23: 23- 32

Verse 30 “And whatsoever soul it be that does any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.” [ the demand that no work be done on this particular day WAS MEANT TO PORTRAY SALVATION BY FAITH, AND NOT BE WORKS {Ephesians 2:8-9} READ

Verse 31 “ You shall do no manner of work: it shall be a Statute FOREVER throughout your generations in all your dwellings.” [UNTIL CHRIST WOULD COME, WHO, IN EFFECT, WAS THE ATONMENT, WHICH WOULD BE BROUGHT ABOUT ON THE CROSS OF CALARY.]

Verse 32 “ It shall be unto you a Sabbath ret, and you shall afflict your souls; in the ninth day of the month at evening, from evening unto evening, shall you celebrate your Salbath.” {ISRAEL WAS TO “rest” ON THIS DAY, TYPIFYING THE REST THAT CHRIST WOULD BRING, AND WHICH WOULD COME TO THE SEEKING SOUL;

WHEREAS THEN IT WAS ONLY ONE DAY OF REST, TYPFIED EVERY WEEK BY THE SABATH, NOW IT IS A PERPETUAL REST, BECAUSE ALL IS IN CHRIST.}

Matthew 11:28-30 --28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

Amen!
